Departing in the afternoon and returning after sunset (reaching Jaisalmer approx 9pm) the same day
After travelling out of Jaisalmer by jeep you will visit an oasis (seasonal) and the ruined Khaba fort, which houses a small museum. We will then drive you to our starting camp, where you’ll meet your guides and camels. After mounting up, you and your guides will set off for the dunes, which you’ll reach in time for sunset. Our guides will cook a freshly prepared Indian meal while you watch the sun go down. After sunset, you’ll return to Jaisalmer by jeep.

If you chose this option, you will travel by jeep to our camel pick-up point to watch the sunrise. You will then meet your camels and guides and, after breakfast, mount up and ride for a couple of hours. After a lengthy lunch break in the shade, you and your guides will set off for the dunes, which you’ll reach in time for sunset. Our guides will cook a freshly prepared Indian meal while you watch the sun go down. After sunset, you’ll return to Jaisalmer by jeep. (As the jeep portion of this itinerary takes place in the dark, this tour does not include stops at the oasis or Khaba Fort).

OVERNIGHT TOUR
Our popular overnight camel safaris are a fantastic way to experience the wonders of the desert. You will be taken to the camel point by jeep and will ride through the varied landscape of the Thar desert – arid scrubland, fields ploughed by tenacious farmers, and rocky outcrops, dotted with huts and temples and affording plenty of opportunities to spot the local wildlife.
Those starting at 6.30am will have breakfast out in the desert before their morning’s riding (approximately two hours), and will enjoy a lengthy lunch break in the shade before saddling up again in the afternoon; those starting in the afternoon will join us after lunch (afternoon riding time approximately one-and-a-half to two hours).
Eventually a set of isolated sand dunes will come into view – our campsite for the night. You’ll reach the dunes in time to watch the sunset over a cup of chai and some freshly cooked snacks. After sunset, you’ll be served dinner before bedding down for the night under the light of the Milky Way. Mattresses and blankets will be provided. The following morning you can watch the sunrise over breakfast before setting off on your camels again. Those leaving us before lunch will ride for approximately one/one-and-a-half hours to the jeep point – those staying with us until 5.30pm or for multiple days will continue riding until midday, and again after lunch.
These tours include visits to a natural oasis, an important water source for local villagers, farmers and animals, and to the ruined Khaba Fort. The fort houses a small museum (no entry fee) and is frequently inhabited by peacocks: it also affords excellent views of the deserted village that lies beneath it. For early morning departures or late afternoon returns you will also have the opportunity to visit an inhabited desert village.
If this captures your imagination and you’d like to spend an extra night under the stars, you can easily extend your trip – just ask your guides for further details.
Longer tours can be booked for 2-21 nights, and can be completely customised according to your needs. The basic cost for multi-day safaris (eg. 3 days, 2 nights and upwards), including all meals, water, bedding, trekking in our off-the-beaten-track area, one camel per person and jeep support, is INR 1250 per person per day (counting both first and last day). You can choose to start at either 6.30am or after lunch and to return at any time up to 5.30pm.
Note that we cannot offer half-day rates (eg. the price per day is the same regardless of whether you depart/return in the morning or afternoon), so we recommend the early departure and late return to maximise your value for money. Use of our guesthouse facilities before and after your safari is included. Specific requirements (e.g. if there are certain places you would like to visit or additional activities you wish to include) may cost extra.

Otherwise the starting point is Trotters' office (reporting time half an hour before the scheduled start of your safari).
Beer is not included but can be purchased at the dunes.
You may also choose to tip your camel guide and/or jeep driver if you are happy with their service: this is not compulsory but is very much appreciated. Tips can be given at the end of the safari, when your camel guide says goodbye to you before getting in the jeep.
Camel man Desert Safari specialises in non-touristic, off-the-beaten-track safaris. This is the option we recommend, as the touristic areas (such as Sam and Khuri) can be very crowded. It is a much more rewarding experience to trek away from the beaten path. Our guides are constantly seeking out the best and most isolated routes and camping sites available. On our non-touristic safaris you usually won’t see tourists from any other company during the entire trip.
